Maybe worried was the wrong word. Overanxious, perhaps. It wasn't wise to hope for the future when you spent most of your life expecting the worst to happen. It was even less wise to want to spend more and more time with Alphen when she was bound to cause him pain eventually. She kept forgetting about that detail.
